Carvoeiro’s narrow streets and limited parking can be challenging during summer season, but we found that parking our rental car at a designated car park near the town’s center or beach was a convenient workaround.

2) Algar seco
When my mum came over for a week-long visit, we took her to Algar Seco, a captivating spot not far from the town centre. As we strolled along the coastal paths, the intriguing rock formations, sculpted by years of erosion, offered us a serene yet fascinating walk. It was a simple, beautiful adventure that added a special touch to our visit, making our time together in Carvoeiro even more memorable.

Praia do Vale de Centeanes was just a 20-minute walk from where we were staying. I made habit of running to this beach every morning. It’s surrounded by big cliffs, which makes it feel like a hidden gem. There’s also a bar right on the beach, making it our favorite spot to watch the sunset. ☺️
5) Praia da Marinha
Praia da Marinha is where I first fell in love with Algarve, its crystal-clear waters and incredible rock formations capturing my heart instantly. Over the years, we’ve made many trips back to this enchanting spot, especially to watch the sunset. The way the colors of the dusk dance on the waters is a spectacle that never gets old.
When we first visited, there were no regulations on the number of people on the beach, and parking was free. Luckily, we visit during the off-season, so we continue to enjoy this beach without any fees and with fewer people around. However, we’ve heard that in the summer, it can get quite crowded.
6) Praia do Paraíso
Finally, Praia do Paraíso is a small, hidden cove that offers visitors a more intimate beach experience. Surrounded by rocky cliffs and lush vegetation, it’s a secluded oasis perfect for those seeking tranquillity and picturesque views.
7) Alfanzina Lighthouse
Our holiday home in Carvoeiro was blissfully close to the Alfanzina Lighthouse, a landmark we grew fond of. It became our little tradition to take our dog for a walk to this iconic lighthouse, soaking in the local charm along the way.
Perched on the Algarvean cliffs, it has been a silent guardian over the Atlantic since 1920, its light guiding sailors through the night. We’d often imagine the life of the lighthouse keeper who once lived in the annex, surrounded by endless ocean views. Now, every Wednesday from 14:00-17:00, its doors open to the public, sharing a slice of Algarve’s maritime history.
The lighthouse is also a scenic point on The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail, blending natural beauty with a touch of nostalgia. Each visit feels like stepping back in time, a personal journey we looked forward to on our escapes to Carvoeiro.

It’s not just a school, but a community bonded over the thrill of surfing, accredited by the Portuguese Federation of Surf and Tourism of Portugal, and licensed by the Captaincy of the Port of Lagos.

In the heart of Carvoeiro lies a sanctuary of tranquility that we’ve come to cherish over our visits – the local Thai massage center. It’s become a delightful ritual for us, to immerse in the ancient healing art of Thai massage at least once every time we’re in town. The ambiance in the center transports us to a realm of serenity, where skilled therapists work their magic, easing away the knots of stress with each rhythmic stretch and knead.

Another gem not to be missed is Olaria Pequena, a quaint workshop where a father-daughter duo spins magic with clay. We adore their unique creations and have several pieces adorning our home, showcasing a blend of traditional and contemporary craftsmanship.
Be warned though, a visit might tempt you to splurge as it did with us – we find ourselves leaving with cherished pottery and lighter wallets every time. 😁 Their pottery may not be traditional, but it carries a unique charm that captures the heart.
13) Lagos
If you’re basing yourself in Carvoeiro, a day trip to Lagos and its enchanting surrounding beaches is a must-do. The journey from Carvoeiro to Lagos unveils a different facet of the Algarve, one that’s rich in maritime history nestled amidst quaint cobbled streets.
Our beach explorations led us to some magical shores. Among our favorites were Praia Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo. Praia Dona Ana, with its stunning cliffs and clear waters, felt like stepping into a postcard, while the secluded charm of Praia do Camilo, accessible by a scenic wooden staircase, was nothing short of a serene retreat.
The awe-inspiring Ponta da Piedade is another spot we can’t help but recommend. Though not a beach, the breathtaking views of rugged coastline and the vast Atlantic from this point are surreal. The natural arches and the tranquil boat rides exploring the caves and grottoes along the coast were moments that got etched in our memories.
